VELVET DICE – BLOG LAUNCH

THE JOURNEY

My journey dates back to 2nd February 2014 when I had purchased my first blog domain, but I wasn’t sure how to create a blog neither did I have resourceful friends who had the ability to build one for me. With big dreams, and a mind that would constantly wander off in to some dream land, would come up with new ideas probably when there wasn’t such technology then to implement it.

I then consulted a web developer who had quoted an unrealistic amount for a website with basic functionality, at which point I was too naive to lookout for an alternate person to make a comparison on the pricing. But I still went ahead with it because I was hopeful that it will turn out to be good for me. Boy! Was I wrong? It later so happened that the developer decided to take the advance that I had paid and run away without completing the website I wanted. So, the life from then on was all about being broke, anti-social and just staying alive. However, there were few attempts that were made in between to revive myself, but that person in me who had all those big dreams seemed to have been dead that even the normal person in me wasn’t interested in functioning at normal level.

Fast forward to 2020, here we are with the pandemic having changed so many lives and unfortunately has also taken away some lives, I fall in the first category as this most certainly has helped me become that person I was before. I have been able to productively use my time, utilise my brain a lot better than before. So, with mixed emotions my first heart felt gratitude would be to the virus that collectively doesn’t weigh even a gram.

“Life comes down to a few moments. This is one of them” – Charlie Sheen

For all those out there who have lost hope that they have lived a life that is not what they dreamt of and for all those who feel they have lost their true self and are now just living someone else’s life; this is for you. Stay alive Champ; there will be a moment in life which will put an end to all the troubles that you are going through and this blessing will be in some form or other, hang in there. Make the best use of that moment when it presents itself to you.

Here’s one of my favourite quotes from one of the best in the ring:

All these are revealed to the readers because this blog has borne its fruition after a very long time. It took a lot out of me to change myself and become matured enough to sit patiently and do what I’m doing now. I’m not a professional blogger, so this is an honest attempt to impart the knowledge and the resources that I have garnered over the period of time which may benefit someone in some way someday, and I will consider that day as success for the blog as it would see its purpose fulfilled.

How does the story end?

The story never ends at failure, it just restarts. It only pushes you to change yourself and, in the process, it makes you a person sometimes you never imagined you would be or ever wanted to be. But they all turn out to be good, the story restarts itself and success of this story will be written by readers like you next. My story might not be as interesting as that of the great cricketer MS Dhoni, but I think some of you would have been able to relate to it.

Why Velvet Dice?

As a kid, I never understood what probability meant but I used to practice my hand movement to ensure that I draw the right number on the dice while playing board games with my cousins. I didn’t like probability during my math classes in school as well.

But as I started to learn more about probability during the data science classes, more examples were placed around the dice. This got me curious and started to understand more about it. It’s standard six side form – seem like the simplest kind of device—almost a classic embodiment of chance. What’s more, the shifts in dice’s appearance may reflect people’s changing sense of what exactly is behind a roll—fate, or probability. As my fate has changed a bit during these trying times, it only felt appropriate to have a name that had dice in it.

Why velvet ? Well that was a random pick by my mom.

Special Thanks

All thanks to my Parents, my brother, my sister-in-law, my niece & a very dear supporter and my friends who were all part of the journey so far. I don’t think I would have become the person I’m now if not for all that had happened to me and support that were provided to me when I most needed them. Thanks to everyone who took their time to read this. I hope this blog keeps you engaged with all its posts.
